TEFAN LAWL

A televised heritage competition regarded as one of the biggest heritage TV programs in the region. The program’s name "Tefan Lawal" signifies “previous times” or “days long ago”. The program sheds light on the authentic Emirati heritage with its various aspects and rich components in an effort to bring national history and heritage to new generations. The program's segments include heritage-related subjects such as arts, puzzles, proverbs, games, heritage crafts and various folklore elements. The program presents valuable prizes to winning contestants. "Tefan Lawal" is broadcast live on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the main stage of the Sheikh Zayed Festival.

Al Karabi Competition

Rasha features contestants under a bucket of water on a rope in a representation of a traditional water well. In this game, the bucket is lowered in the middle of the well while a heritage question is asked of the player, and if answered correctly, he is taken out of the well. If the answer is wrong, the player is thrown into the well and water is poured over him. Another way of playing the game is by hanging a bucket full of water over and if he answers the question wrong, the bucket of water is poured over his head.

Boxes Competition

A heritage competition for the public where the winner receives a cash or in-kind prize. The competition goes as follows: a set of boxes is presented, each of which conceals a date of an important event in the history of the United Arab Emirates, and contestants have to guess the event or national celebration.

Matareh-Wrestling Competition

A head-to-head game that requires substantial physical strength and coordination, where each player takes off his Ghutra and ties it on his waist tightly while his rival tries to drop him by catching the Ghutra and pulling on it without releasing it from his hands.

Rasha

Participants use "Al Rasha" rope to extract water from the well (Al-Tawi) and then transport the extracted water from the well (Al-Tawi) while running towards the tank located on the opposite side. The winner of the competition is the one who can transport the largest quantity of water within the specified time.

Rokoob Al Sa’ab (Taming and Riding Competition)

Contestants try to tame difficult camels in the shortest possible time and mount them within two minutes.

A competition involving dromedaryies where contestants try to bring younger camels (Al Qa 'ud) to the ground in 30 seconds.

Two teams compete by pulling on each end of a long rope and getting the opposing team’s first player to the halfway line.

Yuani Contest - Children-Adults

This is also known widely as a ‘sack race’. Contestants, young and adult, wear a burlap sacks on their legs, hold on to them with their hands, and jump along in an attempt to reach the finish line first.
